A big part of our team is spreading the message of FIRST by doing many outreach activities in our community. Team 573 has worked with many organizations such as Cranbrook Institute of Science, Beaumont Children’s Hospital,  Operation Good Cheer (sponsored by the Department of Children and Family Services, and many more.

Operation Good Cheer

We have participated in Operation Good Cheer since 2013. During this event,  we pack toys and bikes into planes and trucks at Pontiac Airport that will be distributed to foster children throughout the state of Michigan during Christmastime.

Cranbrook Institute of Science-Halloween Science Event

Every year, the Cranbrook Institute of Science hosts their Halloween Science event. At this event, children come in and visit different tables to participate in Halloween-themed activities. Our members have volunteered for the past couple of years to work at the tables they have set up.

 

Big Sis/Lil Sis

This year, we’ve picked up a new mentoring opportunity that we’ve added to our team is a Big Sis/Lil Sis event. We invited girls from St. Regis and St. Hugo to an All-Girl FRC Competition. Some of the female students on our team showed the students around the pit area and how the 2014 FRC game worked. After the event, we invited the girls back to our build space to do an engineering-based activity and showed them our 2014 OCCRA robot.

Beaumont Children’s Hospital

For the second year in a row, we have been to Beaumont Children’s Hospital to show our past robots and tell the patients there about our team.
