- Team 573 - Mech Warriors - Team History
The Mech Warriors began competing in the First Robotics Competitions in 2001. During the first year, Team 573 was a finalist in the Great Lakes Regional and won enough competitions to enter the Curie Division Finals at the Championships in Atlanta.
The following fall the Mech Warriors joined OCCRA, the Oakland County Competitive Robotics Association and continue to compete in OCCRA's events. OCCRA is a FIRST-inspired season in Oakland County, Michigan where local teams can compete against each other every fall.
Team 573 members originally came from Brother Rice High School, all of whom were male. During the 2003 season Team 573 welcomed the girls from Brother Rice's sister school, Marian and began to incorporate their school uniform (plaid skirts) into the team drivers uniforms . In 2004 the Mech Warriors lost all funding. Team 1, The Juggernauts, accepted Team 573 members as part of their team that year. As a part of the Juggernaut Team, the team the won Detroit Engineering Award and ranked in the top 20 in the Newton division. Team 573 gained new sponsorship from Daimler Chrysler in 2005. With the continued support of Chrysler, we won the Great Lakes Regional in 2007.
