Team 573 is shaping up for the FIRST Robotics Competition 2010 Challenge "BREAKAWAY". Given only 6 weeks to design and build a robot capable of playing a soccer themed game, Team 573 Mech Warriors rose to the challenge. Team 573 worked long hours to design and build a robot capable of the maneuverability, the strength and the agility necessary for both the defensive and offensive challenges of the 2010 competition. Although the 2010 robot needed to be much smaller than robots for previous challenges, this mighty little wonder has quite a "kick".
FIRST is the acronym meaning For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. Inspiring members of Team 573 Mech Warriors and others on competing teams to learn the engineering and innovation it takes to build a robot capable of competing, FIRST Robotics Competitions have grown to include over 1800 teams internationally. There are many benefits to participating in FIRST programs. These include the development of writing skills and business planning used in this case to market and promote the team and the competition robot. Student participants also gain experience in animating skills, website development and visual design. Most importantly members of the team experience the results of positive team and cross team collaboration.
Ultimately, FIRST gives participants first hand experience regarding the amount of work and collaboration that goes into a real engineering project. Being a member of Team 573 and the FIRST Robotics Competition continues to help each member develop the leadership skills that are necessary later in life.
Members of FIRST Robotics Team 573 Mech Warriors, come from Marian and Brother Rice High Schools located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The FIRST organization's emphasis on Gracious Professionalism reinforces the strong character values and morals that both Marian and Brother Rice High Schools expect their students to live everyday.
